Job Summary

The successful candidate will serve as a Part-Time Police Officer with the Village of Durand Police Department (not exceeding 1500 hours per calendar year) and will be under the supervision and direction of the Village of Durand Chief of Police. The officer will be assigned to Durand Community School District #322 as the School Resource Officer utilizing the SRO triad concept of informal counselor, guest educator and law enforcer. The Officer will follow the school’s official calendar as their schedule with an additional commitment to a designated number of special events throughout the school year such as (2) home football games, homecoming and prom.

Job Description

The selected individual will work closely with all school staff and students to create and maintain a safe learning environment for all. The Officer will be responsible for enhancing existing school safety protocols, participating in threat assessments, taking appropriate law enforcement action when necessary, being a criminal justice resource for staff and students, making class presentation when appropriate, becoming an integral part of the school’s makeup and being a demonstrated role model to the students who range in age from pre-K to 12th grade.

 

Some Qualifications Include

At least three years law enforcement experience and currently certified as a law enforcement officer in Illinois or able to obtain an ILETSB waiver.

Not out of Law Enforcement for more than three years and in good standing with previous agency.

Preferably a certified School Resource Officer.

Preferably a Juvenile Specialist.

Preferably LEADS certified.

Possess a Valid Driver’s License.

Possess a Valid FOID Card or ability to obtain one.

Demonstrated youth involvement.

Able to successfully pass background/ history investigation and any other assessments deemed appropriate.

Subject to Pre-employment medical examination and drug screening (including cannabis).

Take place in interview(s) conducted by Police Department Staff and School District Staff.

Cell-Phone stipend (determined by Village of Durand).

No other benefits offered due to Part-Time Police status with the Village.
