UPDATE REGARDING THE HAZ-MAT CLEAN-UP THAT DURAND FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED:

Thank you to Durand Fire Department who responded to the Haz-Mat incident at 202 W. Howard Street, Durand, called in back up, made the Village aware of the situation and posted the information to Facebook for the public.

The Village has been working with Clean Harbor, who stayed through the night last Thursday to immediately mitigate the spill of a low concentration of hydrochloric acid. To reconfirm what the Fire Department reported: “There was/is no risk of exposure to the general public as the spill was confined to the immediate area of the container”.

However, the ground in the immediate area of the spill is still being addressed by the Haz-Mat team in the required protective gear. Clean-up is expected to be completed by mid-day tomorrow if all goes as planned.

Thank you to Public Works Superintendent, Aaron Kahl, for his prompt and continued supervision of this incident.
