Statement on Water and Sewer Bill Increase

We understand that any increase in utility bills can be concerning to residents, and we want to be transparent about the reasons behind the recent changes to water and sewer rates.

The increase in water and sewer bills is due to a combination of rising operational costs, necessary infrastructure improvements, and regulatory requirements. Specifically:

  1. Aging Infrastructure: Much of our water and sewer system is decades old and in urgent need of repair or replacement. Upgrades are essential to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with environmental standards.
  2. Increased Costs: Like many industries, we are facing rising costs for energy, materials, and labor. These increases directly impact the cost of treating and delivering clean water, as well as safely managing wastewater.
  3. Environmental and Safety Regulations: We are required to meet stringent state and federal water quality standards, which sometimes necessitate upgrades to treatment facilities and systems.
  4. Sustainability Investments: We’re also investing in technologies and practices to make our water system more efficient and sustainable for future generations.

It’s important to note that these decisions are made carefully and often in consultation with village officials, engineers, and financial advisors to ensure long-term service reliability while trying to minimize the burden on consumers. It is also to note, that on any water usage over 3,000 gallons, has not increased in 16 years.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we work to maintain a safe, reliable, and sustainable water and sewer system.

The Village Board understands that times in Illinois are getting tougher with State increases and new taxes being imposed. The Village Board is doing our best to be aware of the affects of increases to our community while seeking creative ways to recoup lost revenue from State changes.
