Residential Sharps Disposal Boxes Now Located Throughout Winnebago County
WINNEBAGO COUNTY – The Winnebago County Health Department (WCHD), in collaboration with Roscoe Township, the Village of Cherry Valley, the Village of Winnebago, and the Village of Durand, is launching a RESIDENTIAL SHARPS DISPOSAL program. Safe sharps disposal helps protect our community and environment.
Residents of Winnebago County can NOW dispose of their residential (household) sharps at five (5) sharps disposal boxes conveniently located across the county with one each in the northeast, southeast, southwest, northwest, and central sections.
Sharps Disposal Boxes Locations:
- Northeast: Roscoe Township – 5792 Elevator Rd., Roscoe, IL 61073
- Southeast: Village of Cherry Valley Police Department – 806 E. State Street, Cherry Valley, IL 61016
- Southwest: Winnebago Public Library – 210 N. Elida St., Winnebago, IL 61088
- Northwest: Village of Durand – 308 W. Main St., Durand, IL 61024
- Central: Winnebago County Health Department – 555 N. Court St., Rockford, IL 61103
All sharps must be in a sharps bin or other puncture resistant and sealed container. There are free sharps containers available while supplies last at the Sharps Disposal Box Locations. These Sharps Disposal Box Locations are open during normal business hours.
How To Safely Dispose of Sharps:
- Place needles and injectors in a sharps container
- Securely close the container
- Return it to a sharps disposal box
